Bo Mar – meaning the “Good Sea” in Esperanto – is specialised in the global trade of marine raw materials.

Our Products

1. High Quality Dried Kelp (Giant Brown Algae, Ecklonia Maxima), milled and shredded into various sizes (<10mm or >10mm)

2. Liquid Seaweed Concentrate as a growth stimulant, made from the freshly harvested giant brown seaweed Ecklonia Maxima.
With 5x the potency of regular other extracts.

Kelp Origin

Our seaweed stems from the coast of the western tip of Africa, along the shorelines from South Africa to Namibia. The very cold Benguela comes to those shores from Antarctica and creates a nutrient rich marine environment, causing the kelp to grow fast and constantly. Kelp is classified as a keystone species, which means, it plays a vital part in forming a thriving ecosystem while being one of the highest sustainable materials from a natural source. It is the largest and fastest-growing marine algae or seaweed, and belongs to the brown algae.

The strength of Ecklonia Maxima is based on the high levels of organic gels within its kelp tissue. In addition to the organic gels, kelp has amazing amounts of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids.

Each plant attaches itself to the sea bed with a stalk. Some kelps can grow ½ metre a day and can reach 30 meters in length and together they often form a thick kelp ‘forests’. Kelp forests are found in the temperate and polar coastal regions of the world. Kelp is usually harvested at low tide but often also collected as ‚beach cast’ right off the beach after stormy seas break them loose and wash them ashore

Ecklonia Maxima as Growth Stimulant and Regulator in the Fertilizer Industry
Seaweed-based bio fertilizers (i.e. from dried Kelp) are considered superior to other fertilizers and farmland manures. They not only improve plant growth and vigour, but also soil health by increasing the moisture content, growth and health of soil microbes by stimulating the microbial activity. Ecklonia Maxima dried Kelp also greatly improves the properties and efficiency of compost tea.
Our Liquid Seaweed Concentrate is derived from freshly harvested South African Brown Algae
Ecklonia Maxima is known to have a very high content of the plant hormone group Auxins, thus promoting root development and growth balance.
Kelp extracts are good for agriculture. Just as with fertilizer and micro nutrients, it is important to apply the right dose at the right time to achieve the best results.
Benefits, as claimed by kelp extract manufacturers and blenders of fertilizers – just to name a few – include:
Increased
crop yield, frost resistance and nutrient uptake
Better
Seed germination, Fruit mass and colour, shelf life and crop quality
Reduced
incidences of pathogen, insect attacks and nematode infestation
And many more. Just ask us for more information.

DID YOU KNOW

Kelp is an underwater plant with a majestic form, deep green colour and a high nutritional yield. Commonly referred to as ``seaweed`` this botanical species is not from the common ``seaweed`` but rather a different classification of plant
Processing and Packaging
Dried Kelp: After the harvest, the seaweed is spread out to dry.
Then it is taken to our central depot where it is sorted, cleaned, shredded to various grades (<10mm or >10mm). and filled in woven plastic bags (approx. 30kg or 50kg) or into process-integrated bulk bags. Depending on our customers specification.

Quality Control
Dried Kelp is a natural product. To ensure you receive the best possible quality, we do multiple checks on moisture content and impurities. From handling to shredding and from packing to loading.
Liquid Seaweed Concentrate is made in a patented manufacturing process. Therefore we are in the position to offer you a wide range of kelp extracts. Clinical trials and tests from independent laboratories ensure a constant quality standard.
Liquid Seaweed Concentrate
Liquid Seaweed Concentrate: is made from freshly harvested Kelp and available in various size packaging; 200ml, 1000ml, 25l or in 1000l flow-bins. The latter usually used for blending. Private label enquiries are welcome.
We also offer a Ecklonia Maxima Kelp extract manufacturing services to bulk users with a wide range of free IAA, PH and Micro element compositions available. Composed as per your specification and verified by an independent laboratory.
Sustainability
Kelp is an ecologically friendly, in itself highly sustainable, natural product with a very small footprint. It grows in the pristine cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean of South Africa.
For the harvest we predominantly work with previously disadvantaged communities and co-operatives in concession areas. Those communitiesare licensed to harvest Ecklonia Maxima – cast or fresh. To ensure sustainability, the supply is regionally and seasonally limited while monitored by the Government’s Coastal Management. To meet our criteria in quality, quantity and sustainability, we work with communities along a coastline of almost 1000 km
